This week saw us all heading out for the AIFS Salamanca Tapas Tour. Tapas are, of course, one of the more well-known of Spanish traditions, but we weren't going to let the students walk in uninformed... Our resident expert, Inés, first of all gave them a lecture on Spanish gastronomy, talking them through the various regions of Spain and their typical dishes. Paella from Valencia, cured ham from Salamanca, seafood from the coast... Inés has a wonderful knack of bringing the ideas of taste, smell, recipes and preparation to the classroom, and after a few questions at the end of the class the students were more than ready to head out and sample the delights! This photo, taken by one of our obviously talented students, Abelardo Santanas, is just a teaser of what you can find on offer in the tucked away restaurants in Salamanca...
Sian left very early this morning, along with 20 students and Professor Jim Shannon, for the annual excursion to Portugal. They'll be visiting Coimbra, Lisbon and Porto, three of the most picturesque cities in Western Europe, so we shall be sure to update you all on that trip next week.
In the mean time, un buen fin de semana to everyone, and hasta la próxima!
Harry
