Chocolate y Churros- Breakfast of Champions!

It is a beautifully clear day in Salamanca today, still very fresh (ie, cold!) but the bright sunshine certainly takes the edge off!  This morning, we rewarded the students for surviving their first week with, in my opinion, one of the best culinary creations of Spain- Chocolate con Churros!!

As usual, this was very popular, and as far as I know we didn't have anyone who had made the awful decision to give up chocolate for lent (this was me last year, never again!!)

The chocolate gave the students plenty of energy for the Travel and Cultural Awareness workshops, and we had some great early observations of the Spanish lifestyle and the city of Salamanca.  It has already been noticed that the Spanish day seems to stretch far longer than any other- the streets are always packed with salmantinos regardless of the time of day (or night!) The power of the coffee definitely has something to with it!

After the workshops it was time for me to say my goodbyes.  This is my fourth semester working on the program and the first time that I am not able to stay on site with the group, but I have really enjoyed being here for the first week to help everyone settle in, and leaving is much harder than I imagined.  It may sound incredibly cliched, but Salamanca definitely has that special something that gets under your skin and makes sure you never stay away for too long.  Harry himself is proof of this, he first visited the city when he was 19, and is still just as fond of the place 'X' years later!

Here's to Spring 2012, and a fantastic program!

Hasta la proxima,
Sarah
